As major Hollywood movie studios continue to flock to Massachusetts to shoot their newest big-screen blockbusters, Franklin Park Zoo is ready for its own close-up.

Franklin Park Zoo has been selected as the filming location for The Zookeeper, starring Kevin James. The Zoo will remain open during filming which will run through the summer.

In The Zookeeper, the animals are an integral part of the storyline. In an attempt to help their beloved zookeeper win back the woman of his dreams, a variety of zoo animals try to teach the film’s hero their own methods of dating and mating. Rosario Dawson has been cast as Kate, the smart, funny zoo veterinarian who works alongside Griffin (Kevin James). Leslie Bibb plays Stephanie, the ex-girlfriend who broke Griffin’s heart and got away. The Zookeeper is being directed by Frank Coraci, the director of hit comedies such as The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy and Click.

“All of the improvements we’ve made to Franklin Park Zoo in the past few years have drawn the attention of people and businesses throughout New England, and now Hollywood as well,” said John Linehan, Zoo New England President and CEO. “The selection of Massachusetts as a place for this movie filming is going to be a huge economic stimulus for the state, which is one of the biggest reasons we made this opportunity a priority. Not only will it give Franklin Park Zoo a national reputation, but it will have a tremendous impact in terms of job creation in the Boston area as well as enhance our contribution to the very important tourism industry."
