NOAA Fisheries will bring life-size inflatable replicas of animals including a right whale calf, leatherback turtle and 10-foot long Atlantic sturgeon. The day will also include activities and games for kids, animal encounters, as well as opportunities to meet zookeepers during scheduled zookeeper encounters.

Each year the national American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) sponsors a fundraising bowl-a-thon, “Bowling For Rhinos” (BFR). Over 60 AAZK chapters participate throughout the U.S. and Canada, raising between $200,000- $300,000 annually. We'd love to see that number increase this year! Funds support Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Ujung Kulon National Park, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, and Way Kambas National Park. These sanctuaries not only save rhinos, but they protect ecosystems!

Our local chapter’s BFR event is extremely popular, with teams formed within and outside of the zookeeper community to raise awareness and contributions for rhino conservation. Bowlers collect pledges to raise funds for the event, and top fundraisers receive prizes.

Not so into bowling? You can still help raise funds-- with or without those fancy bowling shoes--by collecting pledges.

Download a pledge sheet, and let's get rolling!
