Forest Garden Design DayFranklin Park Zoo
Sunday, May 7, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Calling all permaculture designers and enthusiasts! Join us in the planning of the Zoo’s new forest garden. Participants will review the basics of food forest design before diving in to detail with planning polycultures and building off of sketches. Whether you’re an experienced designer adding to your portfolio, or a novice seeking to increase your skills, all input is welcome.
Be prepared to get dirty! This will be a hands-on workshop and participants will put their newly acquired knowledge into practice as they work in the Organic Garden Project at Franklin Park Zoo. Participants will enhance the soils in the Zoo’s own forage forest garden by spreading and inoculating mulch with beneficial fungi.
Offered in partnership with the Boston Food Forest Coalition, this spring series of workshops and talks focus on urban sustainability and permaculture principles. Workshops are designed to provide participants with hands-on opportunities to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice.
- There is no cost to participate in this workshop, but pre-registration is required. Space is limited.
- Participants should meet at 11:45 a.m. at the Zebra entrance at Franklin Park Zoo, located at One Franklin Park Road, Boston, MA 02121.
- In addition to the knowledge gained, these workshops are volunteer opportunities for participants. A chaperone is required for every three volunteers under the age of 18. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
