Food Enrichment

Animals spend much of their waking hours finding food. Instead of just feeding an animal its food in a bowl, keepers scatter it, smear it, freeze it, or hide it in another object to encourage them to forage, hunt, and manipulate their food like they would in the wild. We also offer Fruit of the Week at the Zoo where some animals are given a new type of fruit every week to add variety.

Puzzle feeders offer animals a challenging and time-consuming method of obtaining their diet. These specialized toys contain holes drilled throughout allowing food to fall out as the animals manipulate the feeder. In addition, edible trees and plants are offered to animals that eat a lot of vegetation.
