Please note: On Wednesday April 24 at Franklin Park Zoo and Thursday, April 25 at Stone Zoo, volunteers, zoo employees and local emergency responders will take part in routine animal escape exercises. While the exercise is occurring, guests have the opportunity to participate in the evacuation portion, and may be asked to move to certain areas within the Zoo for a brief period of time (not to exceed 10 minutes). These exercises are an important part of our preparedness training, and we appreciate your participation and understanding. If you have any questions about what to expect, please don't hesitate to contact us at 617-989-2000 or info@zoonewengland.org.

Name our baby gorilla

And the baby's name is...

Aziza!

The name, meaning "highly esteemed, precious," was selected by the gorilla family live on necn on Friday morning.

The Zoo and necn received hundreds of name submissions, which were then narrowed down to the top three: Aziza, Kianga and Makemba. These three names were affixed to special boxes in the gorilla exhibit, and it was up to the gorilla family to make the final choice.

Be sure to visit Aziza in Franklin Park Zoo's Tropical Forest!

About the baby:

Kiki, one of Franklin Park Zoo's seven western lowland gorillas, gave birth to her fourth baby with her mate Kitombe on May 14. Because mom is very protective of her little one, we're 95 percent sure the baby is a girl.
