2020 Boston Marathon

Meet our 2020 Boston Marathon runner, Siobhan Daly! Daly has committed to raise important funds for Zoo New England and ensure that our unique experiences connect people and nature, provide youth focused education programs, and continue conservation projects locally and around the world for many years to come.

“The zoo has made nothing but positive changes in our lives … to come full circle and be able to run for the zoo again is amazing.”

Siobhan Daly started running in the summer of 2014, with a 1.9 mile run around the block that took 30 minutes. She had never before exercised or even owned sneakers. Fast forward six years later, and Daly is running her fifth consecutive Boston marathon. “Being able to run for the zoo again is amazing,” says the mother of two, who ran the marathon on behalf of Zoo New England in 2015. “I love animals, and Saoirse and Ronan love the zoo!”

Around the time of her first run in 2014, Daly’s daughter, Saoirse, was diagnosed with autism. “The zoo has made nothing but positive changes in our lives,” says Daly. “First when Saoirse was little and couldn’t speak, and now as she’s evolving into a young teen and still feels the magic of the zoo when we walk inside.” Daly recalls one particularly memorable drive home from a visit to the zoo: “Saoirse was quiet and looking out the window. She finally said, ‘Mum how magical was today? I want to feel like this forever.’”

Her daughter’s love for animals has continued to grow. “Saoirse wants to start working at Franklin Park Zoo as soon as she can, and she wants to go to college to become a zookeeper,” says Daly.

This dedication is no doubt what will fuel Daly through the 26.2 mile journey that lies ahead, along with a little “zoo magic.” Our entire Zoo New England family will be there with her in spirit as she takes on the 2020 Boston Marathon on September 14!
