Know Before You Go

We care about you and want to ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone on your Behind-the-Scenes Tour. In order to ensure the safety of staff and guests, we've made modifications in accordance with public guidance and health recommendations. For the safety of our guests, staff and animals the following must be observed for your tour:

  • Please be sure to meet your educator 5 minutes before the tour inside the entrance of Stone Zoo at 149 Pond Street in Stoneham, MA.
  • Please wear closed-toe shoes for the tour.
  • Pictures are allowed on the tour, however pictures can only be for personal use.
  • Admission to the Zoo is NOT included in the price of a Behind-the-Scenes Tour. Online timed reservations are currently required for all guests and members and can be reserved ahead of time here.

We are also asking you and your tour participants to take precautionary steps before your tour and have implemented some additional COVID-19 restrictions:

  • Please screen yourself and your group ahead of time to make sure that nobody in your group has any symptoms of a cold. If anyone in your group does have any cold symptoms, please ask those individuals to excuse themselves from the tour.
  • Guests will be asked to complete a questionnaire and sign off on requirements before attending the behind-the-scenes experience. Responses of “Yes” to any question will require rescheduling those persons or the entire household from the tour until such time as all conditions on the questionnaire can be answered with “No” responses. Each member of the group must complete a separate questionnaire. Parents are asked to complete the form for any children attending.
  • Each guest will have their temperature taken by Zoo New England staff with a touchless thermometer prior to entering the behind-the-scenes area. Any guest with a temperature of 100F or higher will need to reschedule. It is recommended that guests take their own temperature at home before coming to the Zoo that day, if possible, and stay at home if their temperature is elevated.
  • Although we allow up to four guests per registration, only one person may enter the exhibit at a time to allow for social distancing. We will divide the 30-minute tour time between the participants in your group. This in accordance with Governor Baker's Phase 3 Step 1 guidance in effect on July 6, 2020, that capacity for groups will be determined based on 8 people (including staff) per 1,000 square feet of indoor space in the behind-the-scenes area to be toured.
  • Before the tour begins, we will ask everyone to use hand sanitizer before entering the sloth exhibit.
  • We will also ask you and your group to use hand sanitizer at the end of the tour.
  • During your tour, there will also be no touching or direct contact with the sloths. Feeding may still be permitted using the provided tongs only.
  • Masks are required to be worn during the entire length of your tour.

Please let us know if there are any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
