Zootopia, Zoo New England's annual fundraising gala, "brings the Zoo” to the Cambridge waterfront's Royal Sonesta Boston Hotel. The evening begins with a cocktail reception and auction followed by a spectacular dinner and dancing. During the cocktail reception, guests have the opportunity to meet some of the Zoos’ animal ambassadors.

Zootopia will be hosted by NBC 10 Boston, necn anchor Latoyia Edwards and chief meteorologist Matt Noyes.

"Living the Mission" Award Recipient, Edward O. Wilson

We are honored to present our "Living the Mission" award to Edward O. Wilson in recognition of his deep commitment to conservation and biodiversity. 

Wilson is recognized as one of the creators of two scientific disciplines (island biogeography and sociobiology), three unifying concepts for science and the humanities jointly (biophilia, biodiversity studies, and consilience), and one major technological advance in the study of global biodiversity (the Encyclopedia of Life).

He has received over 100 awards worldwide, including the U. S. National Medal of Science, the Crafoord Prize (equivalent of the Nobel, for ecology) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the International Prize of Biology of Japan; and in letters, two Pulitzer Prizes in nonfiction, the Nonino and Serono Prizes of Italy, and the COSMOS Prize of Japan.

He is currently Honorary Curator in Entomology and University Research Professor Emeritus, Harvard University.

2018 winner

As part of the Zootopia celebration, Zoo staff is excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Young Conservationist Award.

The nominated youth should be students in grades 3-12, have demonstrated a positive commitment to Zoo New England and its conservation mission, and have engaged in some outstanding action to support this.

The award, which includes a $2,500 scholarship, will be presented at the Zootopia gala to further the recipient's project, conservation work and education. The winner and two adults will receive complimentary tickets to Zootopia to participate in the awards ceremony.
