Know Before You Go

We care about you and want to ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone who visits. For the safety of our guests, staff and animals the following must be observed when visiting.

• Guests who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are not required to wear a mask outdoors, except for certain opportunities such as visiting the petting area.
• All guests are required to wear masks while indoors. Children under age two (per City of Boston guidelines) are not required to wear a face covering, except when visiting the petting area.
• If you are unvaccinated, you need to wear a mask indoors and in circumstances where you cannot maintain social distance outdoors.

goat iconFor the health and safety of the animals, no individual will be permitted in the petting area (including young children) without a mask. Guests must also use hand sanitizer before and after visiting this area.

Exhibits & Attractions

Indoor exhibits, including the Tropical Forest, Bird’s World buildings, Franklin Farm barn, chicken coop and brooder building are all open. Be sure to visit our Attractions page to see what's available during your visit.

  • For the animals' health, safety and well-being, some animals may not be on exhibit due to weather, exhibit work, or veterinary procedures.
  • When spending time at an exhibit, please respect physical distancing guidelines if you are unvaccinated against COVID-19.


Tickets

  • Online reservations are REQUIRED for general admission ticket buyers. Reservations are made for a specific date and time.
  • Members can check-in at the admissions gate with their member cards and a photo ID, and do not have to make advance reservations for daytime admission.
  • Guests without online access can reserve a time slot by calling 617-989-2076.

Health and Safety

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. We are following the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and CDC guidelines. By visiting Zoo New England’s Franklin Park Zoo, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

What we are doing:

  • The Zoo is following a strict cleaning schedule for all high-contact surfaces and restrooms.
  • Unvaccinated staff are still required to wear masks in accordance with current guidelines.
  • Additional hand sanitizer and hand washing stations are located throughout the Zoo.

What you need to do:

  • If you feel sick prior to visiting, please stay home and select another day to visit.
  • Unvaccinated guests must maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet between you and other Zoo visitors not in your party.
  • Remember to wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds, and do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.


FAQ

Are reservations required for entry to the Zoo?

  • Yes, reservations are required for non-members. Reservations are made for a specific date and time.
  • General admission reservations are limited each day. 
  • Members may show their membership pass and/or a photo ID at the admissions booth upon arrival. Members do not need to reserve a timeslot ahead of time for daytime admission. Any guests not included in your membership will need to reserve a ticket online. 
  • Guests with general admission will need their reserved tickets (printed or on phone) to check in.

Will you accept cash as payment?

  • Tickets must be purchased ahead of time online. We accept all major credit and debit cards.
  • If you need to use cash to purchase a ticket, please call ahead of time at 617-989-2076.
  • Cash will be accepted at all of our concession and gift locations.

What if I am late for my reserved time slot?

We ask that all guests make every effort to arrive on time. If you have a concern, please call 617-989-2076.

What if I make a reservation and I'm unable to attend at the date/time I selected?

In order for a timed reservation system to work as best as possible, please make sure you are able to attend your reserved slot at time of purchase.

I bought the wrong tickets/timeslot. Can this be fixed?

All ticket sales are final. If you have concerns, please call 617-989-2076.

Can I reserve tickets for a group?

Yes, we are accepting group reservations. Timed ticket and capacity rules apply to groups, and advance group reservations are required.

After I purchase my reservation and enter the Zoo, will my time be limited or restricted?

Each timed reservation group should have more than enough time to see all available and open exhibits.

I can't find my pre-purchased tickets in my email.

Use the "order lookup" function in the menu of our ticketing site for access to your tickets. You will need to provide the email address and phone number used during purchase.

Are you open if it's raining?

Yes! All daytime Zoo tickets are rain-or-shine, and we don't offer refunds, rainchecks or rescheduling. We encourage you to dress accordingly, or check out our gift shop for rain gear during your visit.

Will indoor facilities be open?

Yes, indoor buildings are open. The Tropical Forest Pavilion (home to gorillas, pygmy hippos, ring-tailed lemurs and more), is a very popular space within the Zoo and may be more crowded than other areas. All guests are required to wear masks while indoors. To ensure a more enjoyable experience for everyone, the pathways are one-way within these buildings.

Are bathrooms open?

Yes, bathrooms are open.

Is food available for purchase?

Franklin Park Zoo's indoor/outdoor, southwestern-themed Giddy-Up Grill concession stand (open year- round) offers delicious treats for the whole family. The grill serves a selection of wraps, burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads, pizza and many other kid-friendly foods. Guests can also make a purchase using our walk-up service window.

Are EBT/WIC/Reciprocal/Military/Teacher discounts available?

Reciprocal/Military/Teacher discounts are not available online but are available at the Admissions gate.

Are library passes being honored?

We are accepting library passes. Please check with your local library to ask if they participate in this program. We are working with library partners to provide passes with single use codes. If you have received a pass or code from your library, follow these step-by-step directions to purchase your online tickets. Please note, you must already have the pass or code provided by the library before making your reservations.

Am I required to wear a facial covering?

We are following the current state guidelines, and CDC recommendations. If you are unvaccinated, you need to wear a mask indoors and in circumstances where you cannot maintain social distance outdoors. Guests who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are not required to wear a mask outdoors, except for certain opportunities such as visiting the petting area. All guests are required to wear masks while indoors and in circumstances where you cannot maintain social distance. Will I have to wait in line to enter the Zoo?

If you arrive early for your designated time slot, please wait in your vehicle until 5 minutes before your time slot.

Can I buy Zoo tickets before my visit?

Yes. Tickets must be reserved online before your visit. You can reserve your tickets for a specific date and time. Members do not have to make advance reservations for daytime admission.

Can I leave the Zoo and come back in?

There is no re-entry.

Can I bring in food?

Yes, you are welcome to bring in your own food.

Are coolers allowed in the Zoo?

No, coolers are not allowed in the Zoo at this time.

Will strollers or wheelchair be available for rental?

Wheelchairs:

A limited number of wheelchairs may be borrowed at the Admissions booth on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests are asked to present a current photo ID. To ensure availability, we recommend making a reservation. To reserve a wheelchair, please contact us at 617-989-2076, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wheelchair reservations should be made at least a day in advance.

  • 2 EMV's available (Electric Mobility Scooter): $20

Strollers:
A limited number of strollers (approximately 20) are available for rental on a first-come, first-served basis at the Admissions booths. Guests are asked to present a current photo ID.
