Conservation & You

Save Elephants and Rhinos

  • Go on an Elephant Expedition

Citizen scientists, you’re invited to virtually enter the Central African Rainforest of Gabon to help researchers find and count elephants!

  • What do you see?

Hidden motion-sensor cameras are capturing images of creatures roaming the rainforest, both day and night. In addition to elephants, prepare to spot buffalo, gorillas, big cats, and even humans!

  • Field Guide

As members of the expedition, you’ll use a virtual field guide to classify what you see.

  • Kids for Conservation

Using your data, researchers can better understand elephants’ movement patterns and population size, leading to more effective conservation strategies to help save elephants!

  • Share & Discover!

Don't forget, you're working with thousands of expedition members across the world, all united in working to save elephants. Save and share your findings with fellow scientists to make new discoveries!

Featured Project: Elephant Expedition

Enter the Rainforest

Every day, 96 African elephants are killed by poachers looking to make money off their ivory tusks. That's 35,000 elephants a year! Additionally, every 8 hours, a rhino is killed in South Africa for its horns. It's up to your generation to make sure elephants and rhinos have a bright future.

Zoodopt an elephant or rhino

With each elephant and rhino zoodopt, you'll receive more information about these amazing species and the ivory crisis that threatens their existence. While we don't have elephants and rhinos on exhibit here at our Zoos, ZNE is working to raise awareness and protect them from extinction.
