Please note: On Wednesday April 24 at Franklin Park Zoo and Thursday, April 25 at Stone Zoo, volunteers, zoo employees and local emergency responders will take part in routine animal escape exercises. While the exercise is occurring, guests have the opportunity to participate in the evacuation portion, and may be asked to move to certain areas within the Zoo for a brief period of time (not to exceed 10 minutes). These exercises are an important part of our preparedness training, and we appreciate your participation and understanding. If you have any questions about what to expect, please don't hesitate to contact us at 617-989-2000 or info@zoonewengland.org.

Spotlight on zookeeper Matt Stierhof and his work with ring-tailed lemurs

Lemur and keeper

In celebration of National Zoo Keeper week, we asked keeper Matt Stierhof what he loves about Franklin Park Zoo's ring-tailed lemurs:

"Working with our lemurs has been an incredible learning experience. Ring-tailed lemurs have unique personalities and they also rely heavily on their olfactory (smell) senses. This allows me to provide innovative enrichment for them on a daily basis which may consist of perfumes, browse, puzzle feeders and so much more.

I always dreamed of having a career working with animals and love teaching others about nature. Becoming a zookeeper allows me to work with incredible animals and inspire zoo guests every day. Best job in the world!"
