Please note: On Wednesday April 24 at Franklin Park Zoo and Thursday, April 25 at Stone Zoo, volunteers, zoo employees and local emergency responders will take part in routine animal escape exercises. While the exercise is occurring, guests have the opportunity to participate in the evacuation portion, and may be asked to move to certain areas within the Zoo for a brief period of time (not to exceed 10 minutes). These exercises are an important part of our preparedness training, and we appreciate your participation and understanding. If you have any questions about what to expect, please don't hesitate to contact us at 617-989-2000 or info@zoonewengland.org.

Beall (1)

March 29, 2016
6:30 p.m.
East Bridgewater Public Library (in the Community Room)
32 Union Street
East Bridgewater, MA 02333

Join Fred Beall, General Curator at Zoo New England, for a talk titled Cracking the Egg: Discovering the Bird Inside, which will focus on eggs, birds and fascinating facts about birds from all over the world.

From penguins to cranes, Beall has dedicated his distinguished 50-year career to working on behalf of birds – to better understand their behaviors and needs, as well as working to conserve and protect them in the wild.

Throughout his zoo career, Beall has had great success breeding endangered cranes through artificial insemination techniques and environmental manipulation. Under Beall’s leadership, Franklin Park Zoo is the first zoo in North America to have successfully breed endangered Siberian cranes. Prior to working at Zoo New England, Beall worked at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for many years where he had great success breeding and managing penguins.

Talk attendees will also have the opportunity to see examples of eggs, including hummingbird and ostrich eggs, up close.
