Please note: On Wednesday April 24 at Franklin Park Zoo and Thursday, April 25 at Stone Zoo, volunteers, zoo employees and local emergency responders will take part in routine animal escape exercises. While the exercise is occurring, guests have the opportunity to participate in the evacuation portion, and may be asked to move to certain areas within the Zoo for a brief period of time (not to exceed 10 minutes). These exercises are an important part of our preparedness training, and we appreciate your participation and understanding. If you have any questions about what to expect, please don't hesitate to contact us at 617-989-2000 or info@zoonewengland.org.

Zoo New England to participate in Super Bowl bet of WILD proportions

1/31 UPDATE: Zoo New England and Philadelphia Zoo don’t kid around – another gauntlet has been thrown with a GOAT challenge leading up to the big game!

Gorillafootball BoxAs the New England Patriots get ready to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in this Sunday’s Super Bowl LII game, there’s another match-up of WILD proportions taking place between local Zoos in both areas. Zoo New England is partnering with the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, RI and Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, CT to challenge the Philadelphia Zoo, Elmwood Park Zoo, and Lehigh Valley Zoo, all in the Philadelphia area, to a fun and friendly wager – one that will also support a mission-based project of the winning Zoo.

What are the terms? The three directors of the losing Zoos will clean an animal exhibit while wearing the winning team’s jersey. The three losing Zoos will also donate $1,000 each to the winning Zoos’ conservation work or youth-focused program of choice.

Lemurfootball Box“The excitement and confidence levels are high here in Massachusetts as we get ready to watch our Patriots enter into another Super Bowl match-up” says Zoo New England President & CEO John Linehan. “Any time we have the opportunity to team up with fellow Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA)-accredited partners to have some fun and spread the word about the incredible conservation work taking place each day at our Zoos is a win for everyone. We’re looking forward to another Super Bowl win, and seeing our colleagues in the Philadelphia area wear Patriots gear when all is said and done.”
