Zoo New England to donate 50% of gate admission sales on January 26, 2020 in support of Zoos Victoria’s Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund.

Australia is home to a wealth of ecologically diverse and important species, and the number of wildlife affected by the fires is staggering with reported figures ranging from 500 million to 1 billion animals. Saving wildlife is at the heart of Zoo New England’s mission, and we are committed to supporting the conservation efforts of those affected by this environmental catastrophe.

To show our support, on Sunday, January 26, 2020, which is also Australia Day, Zoo New England will donate 50% of all gate admission sales at Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo to Zoos Victoria’s Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund. In addition, a private donor has made a generous $10,000 challenge gift to match all revenue raised at our entry gates on this day. This is a tremendous opportunity for guests to show their support for wildlife both here and abroad and to contribute directly to the life-saving efforts of our counterparts in Australia.

“Australia is rich in biodiversity, and it is heartbreaking to watch the coverage of the fires that are decimating habitats and causing so much destruction for both the humans and animals,” said John Linehan, Zoo New England President and CEO. “We want to raise awareness for this ecologically rich part of the world that is home to so many unique animals, as well as support our colleagues who are working on the front lines of the recovery and relief efforts to save species during this ecological crisis.”

On Thursday, February 13, Franklin Park Zoo will host an evening ticketed fundraiser in the Tropical Forest Pavilion. All event proceeds will support Zoos Victoria’s Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund. Event details will be available soon here.

Additionally, Zoo New England’s Conservation Committee is donating $2,500 in emergency funding to Zoos Victoria’s Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund, which is supporting the critical care and long-term recovery of Australian wildlife.

We are only at the beginning of what is certain to be a long and difficult recovery. Zoo New England is dedicated to saving animals in the wild and will continue to support the Australian community and wildlife affected by this disaster.

Franklin Park Zoo is home to a number of animals native to Australia including red kangaroo, emu, Gouldian finch, black swan, tawny frogmouth, laughing kookaburra, spiny stick insect, blue-tongued skink, sulphur crested cockatoo, budgerigar, palm cockatoo, and more.
