Louise Felton Memorial Zookeepers Fund
The Louise Felton Zookeepers' Memorial Fund was established in memory of a longtime volunteer to provide special enrichment items, treats and tools at the request of our Animal Care staff. Contributions will honor this former volunteer's legacy by directly helping keepers with their day to day routines, exactly as Louise always did, and as she would have wanted us to continue to do. Gifts will be restricted to purchases within our animal care department.
Louise was a long-time volunteer at the Franklin Park Zoo, first in Birds World then in the Tropical Forest. She was a get-things-done kind of woman with a heart of gold and a determination to help out. Louise always looked for creative ways to make our animal care staff's jobs easier and more comfortable. When volunteering at Birds World she built numerous wooden nest boxes to aid in conservation work to breed endangered birds. She could often be found cleaning the kangaroo barn in the Outback Trail habitat and carrying on a conversation with staff about the routine. When in the Tropical Forest, she kept meticulous recipes for perfect animal diets. Her willingness to lend a hand inspired those around her and she touched many lives during her time at the Zoo. In addition to her time as a volunteer, Louise generously contributed in-kind items to help support our animal care staff, allowing us to stretch our budget even further.
