Bottles & Can Recycling
We participate in comingled recycling practices onsite. Guests at both Franklin Park and Stone Zoos are encouraged to recycle their used cans and bottles in receptacles throughout the Zoos.
Zoo New England participates with zoos and aquariums across the globe in the “Gorillas on the Line” mobile phone recycling campaign to help save gorillas in the wild. Guests can recycle their used electronics year-round in Franklin Park Zoo's Tropical Forest (near the gorilla exhibit) or at Stone Zoo near the giftshop.
During the holiday season, guests can drop off used or non-functioning strings of lights and extension cords at our recycling bins at both Zoos. Recycling proceeds support our conservation partner, Lion Landscapes, in their efforts to protect lions and their habitats.
Composting
At Stone Zoo, compost made from animal manure is used to nourish vegetable gardens and flower beds. Keep an eye out for our compost sign during your visit, or download a copy to learn more!
Recycling for our Animals
The animals benefit from recycling, too! We repurpose items like egg cartons, paper towel rolls and phone books for animal enrichment. We use reusable containers for animals’ diets, and we even use shredded paper bags for animal bedding.
