Committed to Conservation

Zoo New England is an active participant in the AZA Chinchilla SAFE Program to help protect and recover some of the last remaining colonies of the Critically Endangered short-tailed chinchilla in Chile.

We also participate in the Chinchilla Species Survival Plan, a cooperative, inter-zoo program coordinated nationally through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. SSPs help to ensure the survival of selected species in zoos and aquariums, most of which are threatened or endangered, and enhance conservation of these species in the wild.
