ZooLights dazzles visitors of all ages each holiday season! Stroll along tree-lined paths lit by thousands of twinkling lights, where you'll see black bears, a bald eagle, Canada lynx, arctic foxes, and even reindeer. Enjoy more festive fun by warming up by the fire pits and toasting marshmallows for s’mores (available for purchase). Children will want to make sure they visit with Santa, who awaits their arrival in Santa’s Castle. Jolly Old St. Nick will be available for photos through December 24. Brick Safari --This year only!

Go on a safari unlike any other! As you explore the paths of Stone Zoo, prepare to spot over 40 life-size animal sculptures made from millions of colorful LEGO® bricks! From the iconic elephant (made from over 270,000 bricks!) to the feisty Tasmanian devil, safari-goers will discover wildlife from all corners of the globe. Visit Santa’s Castle to get an exclusive peek at sculptures only seen at this event, and to meet Santa himself! Full details.

Special Events and Activities Schedule

Nightly Events

  • Warm up with toasted s'mores by the campfire ($5/s'mores kit)
  • Enjoy a moonlit spin on our carousel, Jungle Fun and Turbo Tub. Prices listed at ticket booths. Rides are weather dependent.
  • Snap a pic with Jolly Old St. Nick through December 24. Every Saturday and Sunday in December, plus December 23 and 24, Santa can communicate in American Sign Language. 

Scheduled Events 

  • December 11, 18 and 24: Meet Mrs. Claus, who will be greeting visitors and spreading holiday cheer throughout the Zoo from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
  • December 26 - 29, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.: Adventure through a winter wonderland of lights as you visit with the Ice Queen and Ice Princess at Stone Zoo’s ZooLights from December 26 - 29. Meet with the characters and pose for photos, and don’t forget to dress in your fairy tale best! Please note: both characters will be available December 26 – 28. Musical Lineup

December 10, 6:00 p.m.
Pow Arrangers: Boston's premier pun-based post-collegiate a cappella group. Since 2012, The Pow! Arrangers have been saving the city from the clutches of evil harmonies.

December 12:

  • 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.: Fay Bcharah
  • 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.: Anika Kruger: Fifteen-year-old Anika Kruger is part of the choir department at Shrewsbury High School and has a passion for singing.

December 15, 6:15 p.m.
Vinyl Street: Professional co-ed a cappella group known for their upbeat, high-energy performances and tight blend. Founded in 2007, they are members of the Contemporary A Cappella League (CAL) and perform pop, rock and country covers throughout the Greater Boston area. 

December 16, 7:00 p.m.
Bostonality [bos-ton-ality]: A mouthful of sound? This a capella group, inspired by a blend of poppy-rock-folky-soul, has got you covered. Hailing from Cambridge, MA, this semi-professional, co-ed, post-collegiate family performs energetic and eclectic tunes at showcases, benefits, private events and competitions.

December 19, 7:15 p.m.
Random Chants: This women's a cappella has been combining rich harmonies and dynamic vocal percussion to entertain Greater Boston audiences since the late '90s. The group's repertoire ranges from recent pop hits to classic rock, country and folk favorites. Random Chants performs regularly at small music venues, as well as corporate and private events.

December 20, 6:00 p.m.
Renee Lamy, based out of Worcester, Massachusetts, has been paving her way in the music scene for the past five years. Her sound can be described as a mix of the pop edge of Julia Michaels and the acoustic flow of Ed Sheeran. She has performed at many New England venues such as Boston’s Faneuil Hall and The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl. Renee is currently recording her third single that she plans to release later this year.

December 22, 6:00 p.m.
Paco: Full-time singer, entertainer & actor who performs both solo and also with his 6-member band of young musical phenoms from Berklee College of Music. While Boston is his home-base, he and his band regularly perform across the country at venues including “Countdown To Christmas” in Disney’s Town of Celebration in Orlando, throughout greater LA on the West Coast and at home venues such as at Boston’s First Night on New Year’s Eve on the big stage in Copley Square. He is affiliated with Bristol Studios in Boston, where he has recorded well over 175 songs and already released seven Albums, all of which can be played on Spotify under “Paco’s Captivated”. His newest Music Video (filmed in LA) – based on the great 1950’s Oldie “Sea of Love” has over 600,000 combined hits on YouTube (Sea of Love by Paco) and his own Facebook page: Paco Music. His Nashville-based website with songs, photos and stories can be viewed at www.theworldofpaco.com. His music plays on radio & internet stations globally through AirPlayDirect out of Nashville.

Lord Hobo Holiday Beer Garden

Thursdays, 5:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Lord Hobo logo​Join Lord Hobo Brewing Co. and Stone Zoo at ZooLights for the Lord Hobo Holiday Beer Garden. Celebrate the holidays with games, merriment and exclusive beers from Woburn's Lord Hobo Brewing Company. Make sure you get your picture taken in their real, working black and gold sleigh, and don't miss visits from an animal ambassador at 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. 

Please note:
-Access to the beer garden is restricted for guests 21+. Each guest will be required to wear a wristband in the area, and alcohol is strictly confined to the designated beer garden.
-Animal encounter schedule is subject to weather and animals' needs.

Holiday Hot Chocolate with the Reindeer

Did you know a reindeer can pull a load of up to 300 pounds? Zoo educators will share fun facts like these during your up-close encounter with these hooved heroes. Customize your cocoa with festive toppings from our hot chocolate bar, nibble on cookies, sip hot cider, have your photo taken with our reindeer, and enjoy exclusive early entry to ZooLights.

Space is limited – pre-registration is required.

  • Cost (includes ZooLights + Brick Safari admission): $35 per member participant | $40 non-members. Children under 2 free.
  • Confirmation will be sent upon registration and is required upon arrival.
  • Program will be held outside, rain or shine, unless inclement weather cancels ZooLights, in which case, program participants will be notified in advance.

Waitlist Details

If the event is full, registrants will be placed on the waitlist. If spaces become available, groups will be contacted by phone and email. Registrants will be removed from the waitlist up to two days before the event date. If a waitlisted group has not been contacted by then, no spaces have become available. If you have questions about the event, please feel free to contact the Education Department at education@zoonewengland.org or 617-989-3742.

Host your event in the ZooLights Holiday Pavilion

Host your festive gathering in our holiday pavilion, where guests can mingle and jingle amid a wonderland of lights! Just steps from your heated pavilion, gather by the campfire to raise a toast to the season with delicious s’mores. Partygoers will have the opportunity to meet a wild party guest in an exclusive animal encounter. Your guests will also enjoy exclusive early access to ZooLights, our dazzling light display throughout Stone Zoo.

Your reservation includes:

  • 30x40 tent with heat and lighting
  • Capacity: 100 people
  • 4-hour rental
  • Reservation time between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m., Nov. 22 - Jan. 4
  • Choice of tables and chairs or lounge furniture setup
  • Animal encounter
  • One s’more kit per person
  • ZooLights tickets for each guest
  • Holiday catering options available for an additional fee

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a discount, coupon or Stone Zoo library pass for ZooLights?
Admission discounts and coupons, including library passes, are not valid for ZooLights admission. They may be used for general Zoo admission only.

How long is Santa available? Can I purchase my photos with Santa?
Santa is available nightly through December 24 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. - he is very busy on Christmas Eve! Your professional photos with Santa will be available for an additional fee. 

Will the rides be open?
Yes, rides will be available for an additional cost and are subject to availability due to weather. 

If I visit during the day, can I stay for ZooLights?
Each day during ZooLights, the Zoo will close at its scheduled time of 4:00 p.m., and re-open at 5:00 p.m. for the event. Guests will be asked to exit when the Zoo closes at 4:00 p.m. so staff can set up for the evening's events. Guests are welcome to return for ZooLights at 5:00 p.m., and will need to purchase separate tickets for the event.
