Maya, a Brazilian ocelot, was born May 18, 2014 at Franklin Park Zoo. She's the offspring of Isidoro and P.J. Maya was parent-reared by her mother P.J. behind the scenes at the Zoo and remained in the nest box for the first few months of her life. She made her official public debut on September 3 inside the Tropical Forest building.

As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Zoo New England participates in Species Survival Plans (SSP) for a number of species including Brazilian ocelots. SSPs are designed to maintain a genetically diverse and demographically stable captive population.
