ZooTeen Conservation Education Internship
October 13 – December 20

Build real-world skills in conservation education, public speaking and guest engagement while gaining hands-on experience at the Zoo.

Internship Requirements

Professional Development Workshops:
Conservation Education Interns attend professional development workshops focusing on interpretive training, audience engagement and analysis, visitor-centered interpretive planning, public speaking, and interpretive evaluation. Interns will also have the opportunity to design and create their own "Discovery Station," an interactive, guest-facing conservation learning opportunity. Workshops are held at Franklin Park Zoo on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30–6:30 p.m. 

Weekend Practicum Shifts:
Interns will complete 26 hours of Zoo Education weekend practicum shifts at Franklin Park Zoo over the course of the internship. Practicum hours include interpreting with guests, coaching, receiving feedback, collecting interpretive data and facilitating discovery stations with guests. Shifts take place on Saturdays or Sundays and are offered in two time blocks: 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. or 1:00–4:00 p.m. 

Age and Attendance Requirements:

• Interns must be between 14-19 years of age at the start of the internship.
• Interns must be able to meet attendance requirements for the duration of the internship.
• Interns with strong attendance will also get opportunities for networking across the zoo, training in animal handling, and educational field trips.

Applications are due on September 15th by 5:00 p.m., and we anticipate accepting 6 - 8 fall ZooTeen interns.

After the review of your application, you may be invited to participate in an in-person group interview to learn more about Franklin Park Zoo. (Returning Teen Applicants will have the choice to interview in person or on zoom).
