Included with general Zoo admission. No additional purchase or reservation is required for Zoo members. Note: August 1 workshop requires additional tickets. Takes place rain or shine!
Explore a lush display of bonsai varietals from Bonsai Outlet. Discover the unique characteristics of deciduous, evergreen and tropical bonsai trees, and learn how to care for these stunning plants. Guests can also learn about the stunning art of Ikebana, a Japanese art technique that uses floral arrangements to tell a story through vivid flower displays provided by Boston Ikebana.
The Bonsai Show is located outside of the historic Bird’s World building, which features Asian-inspired architecture. Look for trees native to Asia, including Japanese maples and Ginkgoes cared for by our horticulture team. Franklin Park Zoo recently received accreditation as an arboretum, recognizing the official collection of 160 species of trees and woody shrubs planted on Zoo grounds.
Bonsai Basics Workshop
Have you ever wanted to learn more about the art of bonsai, or even care for a tree of your own? Sign up for the Bonsai Outlet's Bonsai Basics workshop held at Franklin Park Zoo's Nature's Pavilion on Saturday, August 1. This 2.5 hour hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners, teaching the origins of bonsai trees, the principles of bonsai design, and techniques for caring for your bonsai in its new home. Workshop tickets can be purchased directly from Bonsai Outlet. Please note: Zoo admission must be purchased separately.
